Tips on renting student accommodation
Always go to more than one letting agent so you get a good selection of properties to choose from
Make sure you tell the agent your criteria. Normally things like, the location, number of bedrooms, budget and when you want the tenancy to begin.
It is normal that you will pay an agency fee (an administration charge), as well as one months deposit and one months rent.
Have the details of your references and guarantors. Many student landlords require a Guarantor for the rent, commonly this is your parents.
Ensure you read and understand the tenancy agreement. You can probably go to your Student Union or the Citizens Advice Bureau who can check this for you. Be sure you understand what is and what is not included in the rent. These are costs like as council tax, utility bills, ground maintenance etc.
Speak to the current tenants if possible to get an insight into the house, this may help you discover any known problems before you sign up and get them rectified.
